Abu Dhabi to host the World’s Leading Oil and Gas Cyber Security Experts
This October will see the world’s leading cyber security experts meet at the Oil & Gas ICS Cyber Security Forum, hosted by aeCERT. The Keynote Address for this international event will be delivered by Howard Schmidt, until recently the Cyber Security Advisor to President Obama. As the president’s advisor, Prof. Schmidt was responsible for coordinating interagency cybersecurity policy development and implementation and cooperation between federal, state, local, international and private sector partners. Prof. Schmidt had a long distinguished career in defense, law enforcement and corporate security spanning more than 40 years. Prof. Schmidt is one of the world’s leading authority on cyber security issues and solutions and will be speaking in the region for the first time.
The Oil and Gas Industry is facing a myriad of challenges and protecting their critical enterprise infrastructures from cyber attack is of paramount importance. All major hydrocarbon control systems are automated and the Industrial Control Systems (ICS) are prevalent across the Oil and Gas Supply Chain. These automated systems monitor, control and safeguard all aspects of the industry and the potential for havoc wrought by cyber attacks is highly significant, given recent events in KSA for example. In some instances the potential for attack is higher when Oil and Gas companies rely on legacy ICS and IT systems.
In all this the human factor plays a major part in ensuring the Oil and Gas enterprise is free from cyber attack and together with current thinking on incident response and business continuity planning, understanding and dealing with the different types of ICS cyber threats, effective executive management across the IT/ICS interface subject to threats and reviewing the latest technology developments in combating ICS cyber security issues will form the essence of this Forum.
The Forum is supported not only by an exhibition of the latest systems and services available to fend cyber intervention but also four in-depth Workshops on subjects of vital importance to Oil and Gas management in dealing with cyber security problems.
The event running from October 7th to the 10th will provide many solutions and terms of reference to help in securing automation control systems from cyber attack and is viewed in most quarters as being at the heart of protecting the nation’s critical infrastructure.
