Rockwell Automation Announces OSIsoft Joint Development and Licensing Agreement to Deliver Industry-Leading Historian Technology in FactoryTalk Production and Performance Suite
Strategic alliance between two market leaders promises new options for process and discrete applications
BALTIMORE, Oct. 25, 2006 — Rockwell Automation today announced an agreement with OSIsoft Inc. to license and deliver OSIsoft technology within the FactoryTalk integrated production and performance suite. Under the agreement, Rockwell Automation will incorporate the OSIsoft PI System and related components into the FactoryTalk suite and leverage the FactoryTalk service-oriented architecture (SOA) to provide premier integration with the Rockwell Automation Integrated Architecture.
OSIsoft technology helps manufacturers gain greater insight into production operations by collecting detailed control system data, and providing sophisticated data analysis and automated reporting capabilities. This proven approach to increasing plant-floor information visibility improves product quality by identifying and reducing process variability, and lowers costs by reducing manual operations associated with collecting data and preparing reports. It also strengthens control over manufacturing processes, which creates a more agile operation that can respond quickly to customer needs.
The joint development and technology licensed through this agreement will serve as the platform for a tiered, distributed historian strategy that will leverage a rich set of industry-focused applications. This approach represents a highly scalable and cost-effective alternative for manufacturers that want to improve insight from each level of their manufacturing system – from embedded high-speed controls to machines and work cells – to an entire plant or across the enterprise.
“This alliance significantly accelerates the depth and breadth of our historian-based offerings,” said Kevin Roach, vice president of software, Rockwell Automation. “Combining the PI System with FactoryTalk services and connectivity to our Integrated Architecture, gives our customers access to world-class distributed historian capabilities that deliver seamless integration to Rockwell Automation control systems, as well as connectivity to third-party platforms.”
“Rockwell Automation clearly recognizes the customer value of unbounded access to manufacturing information to make the right decisions quickly,” said Pat Kennedy, CEO of OSIsoft. “This partnership realizes our long-term vision of extending the scope of the PI System through a relationship that takes full advantage of its capabilities and brings our technology platform to new markets.”
OSIsoft (www.osisoft.com) delivers the PI System as the core of its powerful operational data management framework – the RtPM Platform (Real-time Performance Management Platform). The world’s leading process manufacturing, life sciences, and utility companies rely on OSIsoft’s Platform wherever real-time data fuels performance. With more than 11,000 installations worldwide, OSIsoft’s Real-time Data Platform crosses IT and process boundaries to incorporate and display operational information. Providing comprehensive visibility into operations, the OSIsoft Platform unlocks the potential for timely analysis and the ability to make critical, informed, and profitable decisions.
Founded in 1980, OSIsoft, Inc. is headquartered in San Leandro, Calif., with operations worldwide and is privately held.
